The US-Mexican border is one of the most utilized and discussed borders in the world, with close to a million travellers passing back and fourth on a daily basis. The differences between standards of living and income in the US and Mexico has also resulted in drug cartels and organized crime groups using the border as a smuggling route or passage into the United States, in addition to millions of illegal immigrants from Mexico seeking a better life into the United States of America. While more liberal advocates have argued it’s unconstitutional to turn away those seeking refuge in America, there are more conservative advocates who have pointed in the more destructive and criminal elements that have managed to sneak in with these good people, and the economic and social implications they have created for American society.
Unless a wall is erected, things might not change much given the US and Mexican border patrols’ limited capabilities to keep up with the trickery of drug smugglers.
